Custom doormat tutorial featuring the Longer B130W Diode laser!
Longer has released a successor to the Longer Ray, and it's a beast! In this video I take it for a run to make a geeky doormat. We'll take a look at the Laser, but this is an end to end tutorial featuring:
- Where to get Doormats at a reasonable price
- Where to get designs for the doormats
- How to layout the designs to center them on the doormat
- Final view of the one I created and some other projects on the Longer B1
You can find more about the laser used in this project from my sponsors site, Longer:
www.longer3d.com/products/longer-laser-b1-30w-laser-engraver
Here's the Amazon link for it..but please check BOTH sites for the best price...as of filming the offiical site has it considerably cheaper, but often coupons show up on amazon that may get you closer..
amzn.to/3suEZ7w
For this video you'll need a COIR doormat, you can find them here:
- COIR Doormat (amazon link) - amzn.to/45H3nB8
- Walmart doormat (my lowest price, but maybe harder to source) - www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Coir-Doormat-18-x-30/872529719
Overall I've enjoyed using the laser, and have done quite a bit of cutting on it so far (500mm/s for 3mm or 1/8th inch basswood). I plan on doing more videos for this Laser as it's a great deal for the amount of power you get.

    Very informative. Thank you. I went to make a repair claim today and not having written down the model and serial number, I was told it was on the back of the screen, as you mentioned. Not being able to lift the screen off the wall on my own, I looked in the settings / about, and that information was there.

    You forgot to mention that support for this item is trash. First of all, you cannot purchase spare parts such as certain cables, the x-axis adjuster, or even a laser module to use as a spare. My autofocus failed. which seems to be common for this model (google it), and support could not fix it. The flame detection failed and the laser continued to burn and did not return to the "home" location causing the laser head to melt. Atezr would only replace the laser head with a 5w laser and stated it would work on my machine. I'm still fighting with them to honor their warranty... 3 months later.

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit Місяць тому

      Thanks for reporting on this. One of the hard parts of when we are reviewing is we typically get the unit before its publicly available, and I don't often know what support will be like or what accessories will be available yet. In the future though I'll make sure to ask and get some statements from the companies, but the sad part is if they don't honor them there isn't much recourse (I had one company tell me they'd provide an accessory that they indefinitely delayed). I've been turning down laser reviews because of things like this....I never want someone to buy on a review and end up in a bad spot. I'm sorry to hear yours is in that shape...mines still be good, but it's hard to know if it's a one off for mfg or if the products truly got quality issues. Support however, I'm disappointed to hear that and will keep that in mind in the future.

      I have no artificial limits. You can add as many as the pi allows, but keep in mind that playlist system only works one folder deep. It’s not pi5…yet. We are working on it. It’s a one time $5 fee, you can cancel after one month if you want. We don’t revoke the software or anything

I'm going to retry doing this hopefully for this summer. The comments section is full of good info on this video however of peoples experiences...it seems that infill and color is important. I don't see why it wouldn't. You'll want to run conduit through the wall to put the cable through. This video is a bit old so I'd check on the size/style of the modern cables to make sure the conduit is thick enough. I don't know the fire code in Germany, there may be other building things that are needed, or less than in the US. You may want to check with an electrician or check local codes just to verify. I'm not an authority on the subject, just a guy that bought a TV and got excited :) Greetings from US, loved my visits to Germany!

      @@kevinmccartney4906 I was just talking to someone today about how I miss having time to do things that were just...exploring. I remember typing in random websites of companies to see if they existed and what they put there. Hmm...does Disney have a site yet? What about Toyota? What about Donkey Kong? And what blows me away is how many domains I tried that weren't up yet! Or how many companies just didn't know what to do with the internet thing. I recall alot of them listed thier phone numbers lol! Such a fun time ineed...before adulting.

    I'm surprised nobody is simply emulating what the Harmony remotes do. I want to set up devices, then set up activities or macros that make use of the devices. Harmony activities could turn on and off the devices associated. The Sofabaton macros just fire the exact same codes with each press. Then theres no help function for when your remote accidentally misses turning on a device or switching to the correct source. I bought the U2, but I am going to return it. Wish I saw this review sooner.

      It’s a frustrating hole that Harmony has left and I hope someone cracks the code soon

    Does this remote require the cloud to program or does it work locally as long as you already have downloaded the app?

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit 6 місяців тому

      For the initial programming it requires the cloud and then anything you add requires it unless you’re learning another remote via IR learning from what I can tell

    Can anyone tell me how much of your image is taken away by the matte? I have a Sony and display slide shows but obviously all are full frame. It also looks like there is a thin matte and a thicker option? I’m a photographer considering putting this in the studio … but curious how much of the image is lost

    So, what are you using for screens, the two smaller ones?

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit 6 місяців тому

      Those were 2 27” dell monitors I think, then I upgraded to 2 32” Vizio TVs. Now I’m building wooden frames around them and going a different way, though I see people building 3 50” tvs into digital walls and that’s..intriguing… :)
